Question

If someone stopped using the Sales Tax filing, but wanted to start using it again much later after is it possible to reset the dates (as in a new period and skip older)?

For example, if someone stopped using the sales tax filing in 2020, but wanted to use it for Dec. 2021. Is there a way to skip the old ones and start new?

Unfortunately this article does not provide a solution.

The previous person had been using the sales tax section to prepare GST returns, but stopped in late 2019.

I am wanting to do a return in the section for 2021, when I click on the next return to file it does not allow me to change the start date to Oct 2021. Is there a way to reset this so I can?

Thanks for reaching back out.  QuickBooks Online Sales Tax feature is a great way to track and remit your taxes effortlessly.   I can see the importance of having the option to reset the starting date for your return.  I'll be happy to provide additional information here.

 

The only option to set the starting date for a sales tax filing period is when you prepare the first return.  However, another option would be to un-file all previous returns and start fresh, based on the date of your preference.  For this, you'll need to reach our to your accountant.  If you don't have an accountant, we can help you locate a ProAdvisor in your local area.
