My auto tracking doesn’t appear to be working. Why not? Everything is turned ON. For example. I’ll drive to work for an entire week and it won’t recognize a single trip to and from work. Then I go skiing on the weekend and it almost immediately recognizes that trip. It makes no sense. I am not changing any settings and I always have my phone with me. I’m having to manually add all my trips, which defeats the purpose of auto tracking.

I appreciate your efforts in troubleshooting and providing detailed examples regarding the inconsistencies in your mileage tracking, JL458902. Since you haven’t changed anything in your account settings, let’s review the general location settings on your phone to ensure nothing was overlooked. I’ll provide more information below.

First, we can only track mileage if we're signed in as a user with admin privileges for the company file.

Next, let's make sure you have auto-tracking turned on in your QuickBooks mobile app so you can seamlessly track your mileage.

Here’s how you can do it:

If you're using an iPhone or iPad, you can follow these steps:

  1. Open the QuickBooks mobile app.
  2. Tap the menu icon, which looks like three horizontal lines.
  3. Go to All and then tap on Mileage.
  4. There, you’ll see an option that says Auto-track your miles. Go ahead and select that.
  5. The app will then ask for permission to Allow location access.

If you're on an Android phone or tablet, follow these steps below:

  1. Open the QuickBooks mobile app.
  2. Select the menu ☰ icon.
  3. Select Mileage.
  4. Turn on the Auto-tracking switch.
  5. Give QuickBooks permission to track your location. This will vary depending on your Android Operating System.
    • For Android OS version 10 and below:
      • For location permissions, select Allow. If prompted, select Allow all the time.
      • If you are prompted to allow access to your physical activity, select Allow.
    • For Android OS version 11 and above:
      • For location permissions select While using the app, then select Ok (if prompted). Then select Allow all the time.
      • If you are prompted to allow access to your physical activity, select Allow.

If the previous steps were unsuccessful, we can try clearing the app's data.

Here's how:

  1. Open your device Settings.
  2. select Apps (varies by device).
  3. Choose QuickBooks app from the list, then select Storage.
  4. Select clear data.

Im guessing since the auto-tracking is working at least part of the time, that I must be logged in as an admin, otherwise it wouldn’t work at all, right? I don’t know how to tell if I’m admin?

I’ve done your other troubleshooting and that was already all correct. The last suggestion to clear the apps storage doesn’t direct me properly,
