Sales Tax Liability Report

All of our sales are taxable.  When I run the sales tax liability report the tax amount due is correct but the report shows amounts under non-taxable when they should all show as taxable.  Does anyone know why this might be happening and how to fix it?

Hello Sandim01,

Accuracy in your sales tax calculations prevents the need to make corrections with the government down the road. QuickBooks Online's sales tax module is designed to give you the confidence you need when filing and reports are a great way to ensure that things are lining up as they should. I'll help you figure out what's going on here.

When it comes to amounts showing up as non-taxable, the first thing to do is review your transactions to make sure they each have the proper sales tax codes applied. An easy way to do this right from reports is to click the amounts available, which will either bring up a report that breaks down the transactions or bring up the transaction, depending which report you're looking at. For your reference of which taxes are taxable versus non-taxable, check out this article: Common sales tax codes

If you're going through those reports and aren't quite sure what you're looking for or how to make sense of the information, another great resource is going to be an accountant. They'll be able to review your books with you to let you know how the sales tax is being applied and calculated based on how you've entered it.

To connect with an accountant, you can use the My Accountant tab. There, it's possible to invite someone you're already working with via email, which gives them the opportunity to access your books with the tools they need to help you. If you don't have an accountant, check out the Find a pro to help button, where you can search our list of QuickBooks-certified accountants to find someone to work with.

If you're certain all your transactions have taxes applied as needed, I recommend contacting the QuickBooks Online support team. A member of that team will be able to take a closer look at this with you to see what's going on. Here's how to reach support.
