Question

The sales tax feature has been modified and an entry from Oct. 31, 2017 has been affected. It won't let me post the correct return.

Hello,

The Sales Tax center in QuickBooks Online got a makeover! With the new look, it can take a bit of time to adjust. It sounds like you've made changes to your previous transactions, which is now affecting an entry from October 31st, 2017. I want to make sure you're pointed in the right direction for help with this.

Depending on how you've recorded the transaction, and what modifications were made, adjusting previous transactions can affect future sales tax filings. I can appreciate that each return must be reflected accurately in QuickBooks. If you need to make adjustments to your tax return, simply click Prepare Return for the filing period in question, then click Adjust next to the line that's incorrect.

I also recommend reviewing this article about adjusting sales tax in QuickBooks Online: Adjust sales tax. This article states that, " if one of the amounts needs to be changed on your sales tax return, the best way to resolve incorrect amounts on your sales tax return is to figure out which transactions may be missing. By doing this, you'll also correct the associated reports."

If you have any further questions about how to resolve this, or you're still unsure where the discrepancy is, please reach out to our tech support team using the contact information found here. It's really beneficial for our team to see how you've set up your books, and the type of modification you made that impacted your books.

Have a great day.
