Hello caitlinamber,

Sales tax calculations are an integral part of bookkeeping for many business owners. I can absolutely appreciate needing these numbers to be correct and to ensure accurate filing to the government so there are no surprises later on. I'll point you in the right direction.

For this sort of situation, more detail will help us with figuring out what's going on. Knowing the specifics of how it's not calculating properly as well as how you've got your sales tax set up sheds light on where errors might be occurring.

As an example, if you've migrated from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online and still using the QuickBooks Desktop sales tax codes (these are usually single-letter codes like H, G, or S), then that could be the problem as we've had reports of these tax codes not working well in Online post-migration. In these cases, it's typically a matter of making the QuickBooks Desktop codes inactive and then configuring the sales tax codes for QuickBooks Online.
