Trying to add QST instead of HST in invoice template

Hi, I work in Quebec and need to put QST taxes instead of HST but I see no options wherever in QB Online so I can change that. I have added all required taxes numbers and in the Taxes section and it shows "Revenu Quebec" but when creating a template, it only gives me HST and no way to change it. Which is wrong for me.

If anyone could help, Thank you.

Hi there Leslie,

Whether you're using QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop, the program aims to keep sales tax tracking as simple as possible. I see that you've tagged QuickBooks Desktop on the post, but mention QuickBooks Online in the text, so I want to make sure to cover both to make sure you have the information you need moving forward.

I'll start with QuickBooks Online. It sounds like you may be working with your Custom form styles, which shows you a handy preview to the right so you can see what the changes will look like. The preview typically defaults to HST and GST calculations, but don't worry, when you actually use the form style on your sales forms, you'll be able to choose the sales tax codes you need, including QST. Give it a shot, save the style, and then go to create a sales receipt or invoice to choose the code you need. Here are some articles that can help.

I also have an article that can help you with setting up your tax codes in QuickBooks Online if you'd like to review your setup: How to set up a new sales tax code

If you're using QuickBooks Desktop, paying attention to the template is just as important. If you've gone in and changed the names of the fields or added custom fields to the templates, all that does is change the name of the field or column. When it comes to applying sales tax codes, those can be added from the sales form when you create it. Here are a few other articles to get you back on track with this.

Like before, I have an article that can help you make sure you have your sales tax configured properly: How to set up sales tax in QuickBooks Desktop.

Another thing I recommend double checking with your sales tax setups are that you haven't inadvertently made any of the codes you need inactive. This article can help for QuickBooks Online: How do I delete a sales tax code? For Desktop, you can check by following these steps.

  1. Select the Lists menu.
  2. Choose Sales Tax Code List.
  3. Review your codes.
  4. If needed, check off the box for Include inactive.
  5. Right-click that code and choose Make Sales Tax Code Active.

I'll leave you with that for now, but if these don't answer your question, feel free to reply here again with a few more details to get us on the same page. I'm here to help!
