I'll ensure you can add tax successfully to your invoices, Luke. I’ve prepared a set of easy-to-follow troubleshooting instructions.

In the QuickBooks Online desktop app, you can choose how tax amounts are calculated on your invoices through the Amounts are dropdown menu when creating or editing an invoice. Specifically, you can choose whether the tax is Exclusive, Inclusive, or Out of Scope. I’ve included a screenshot for your reference:

If you don’t see the Exclusive of Tax option in your app, I recommend performing some troubleshooting steps to resolve any potential technical issues. Clearing your app data often fixes corrupted or outdated files without affecting your company data.

Here's how:

  1. Open your device’s Settings.
  2. Navigate to the list of installed applications.
  3. Select the QuickBooks app from the list.
  4. Choose the option to clear all data.

Furthermore, please verify that your QuickBooks Online desktop app is updated to the latest version. Updates frequently include bug fixes and performance improvements that can resolve issues like missing options.

If the issue persists after these steps, I recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the app. This process will fully clear any cached data causing the problem.

To further optimize your financial management and customer communication, I'll share these valuable resources on personalizing your invoices and sending customer statements. These tools will help you create tailored invoices that reflect your brand's identity and ensure timely communication with your clients:

It’s always a pleasure to assist you, Luke. If you have questions or need further clarification about adding tax to invoices or using the QuickBooks Online app, please reply below or start a new post. I’m here to help you get the most out of your QuickBooks experience.

Sorry for the misunderstanding when I say app I am referring to the mobile app. Thank you for your detailed response but my question was not regarding the desktop app.

Thank you for staying active in the thread, luke47. To address the issue you're experiencing with adding tax to your invoice in the QuickBooks mobile application, I suggest performing some troubleshooting steps. This will resolve common app-related problems and ensure smooth, accurate invoicing.

To start, please make sure your QBO mobile app is current by checking for updates in the Play Store or App Store. After ensuring it's updated, proceed to refresh the app data to view the latest information on your account. Follow these steps to complete the process.

If you're on an iOS device:

  1. Navigate to Settings, then tap on General.
  2. Go to iPhone Storage and select the QuickBooks Online (QBO) app.
  3. Choose Offload App.

If you're on an Android device:

  1. Open the Menu , then tap on More Options ⋮.
  2. Select Settings, followed by Refresh Data.
  3. Tap YES to confirm.

If the problem with the images continues, please proceed to uninstall and reinstall the QBO mobile app. Before you do this, ensure you have backed up all your essential data.

Additionally, here's an article to explore more features available within the QBO app: Compare mobile app features. * Please note, this article is for the USA region, but it may also be applicable to users in Canada.
