Hello,

A customer who is a personal friend accidentally paid  a shared personal expense (non business) to my Quickbooks business bank account rather than my personal bank account. Please advise the steps to correct this.

Thank you.

Thanks for reaching out to us, James. I'll help you correct the accidental payment from your friend into your business bank account in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Since the payment was inadvertently deposited in your business bank account, you'll need to move it to your personal bank account. Then, record the transaction in QBO. To keep your books accurate, enter the transfer as a single entry that affects both accounts.

First, record the transaction as a transfer from one account. Here's how:

  1. Go to Banking and select the bank account where the transfer funds are coming from.
  2. Find and select the transaction to open it.
  3. Click Record as transfer. Then, from the Transferred to dropdown, select the account where you transferred the funds.
  4. Click Add.

Then, match the transaction from the other account. To do that:

  1. Click the bank account where the transfer funds are going.
  2. Select the For Review tab and select the Recognized filter from the dropdown.
  3. Locate the transaction and select Match from the Action column.

Please see this article for the detailed steps: Transfer funds between accounts

Additionally, you may run reports in QBO so you'll have an overview of your sales and expenses.
