Billable expenses

A new account is all you need to record travel expenses, Newbie20. 

Collecting and reporting travel expenses in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is easy, and I'm here to guide you on how.

The billable expense feature is available in QuickBooks Online Plus as of the moment. To add travel expenses to your invoices, I'd recommend creating a specific expense account on your Chart of Accounts.

Do the following: 

1. Go to the Accounting menu and select Chart of accounts.
2. Click the New button in the upper right-hand corner.
3. In the Account Type drop-down, select Expenses. 
4. Under the Detail Type drop-down, choose Travel. 
5. Enter a name in the field and complete the other information. 
6. Click Save and Close

After that, let's create a service item. Let me show you how: 

1. Go to the Gear icon, then choose Product and services. 
2. Click the New button and pick Services. 
3. Enter an item name in the box. 
4. In the Income account drop-down, select the expense account you created earlier. 
5. Complete the other fields, then click Save and close.

Once done, you can create an Invoice transaction and make sure to select the appropriate service to have a complete picture of your travel expenses.
