CLASSES

I have 3 Classes set up and want to make one of them the Default so that all transactions default to this but can be changed accordingly. This default will be the majority of transactions.

Hello denisebecks

Thanks for joining the Community.

It's not possible to set a default class - instead, you'd select this from the class field drop-down when entering a transaction. You can assign a default class to products and services, so that when you select this P/S on the transaction the class field auto-fills. To do this, click the Cog > Products & services > Edit > Assign a class.

You can create sub-classes of your main class by following the steps below - if you've already created your classes, you can edit these to make changes to the sub class settings (select the drop-down beside the class > edit).

1. Go to Settings ⚙ and select All Lists.
2. Select Classes.
3. Select New. Give this class a name.
4. To add a sub-class, select Is a sub-class and select the main class. You can nest up to five classes.
5. Select Save.

This is a MAJOR flaw, it crates a TON of unnecessary & redundant work for no reason. QBO PLEASE… please allow a DEFAULT Class unless changed or “memorized” previously!

Hello there, @3JTEXAS. I can provide insights about having the option to default class in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

I can see the urgency of having this feature in QBO, yet it's still unavailable. I want to ensure your feedback and opinions will be heard and implemented. I recommend sending feedback to our product developers about this option. That way, our QuickBooks Developer team can study further about this feature and may add it to future product updates.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Choose Feedback.
  3. Type in your product suggestions, then click Next to submit feedback.

You may visit our QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website to track the status of your submitted feedback. You can also visit our blog to keep up with recent events and developments.

If you want to pull up a balance sheet report by class in the future, check out this article for reference: Run a balance sheet by class or location in QuickBooks Online.

Tag me in the comment section if you have additional queries about managing classes in QuickBooks. I'm always here to help.
