Say I've taken £500 cash for the month, and banked £400 of it, then with that remaining £100 pay for something like an office desk for £50, how do I go about doing that?

I'm a new sole trader.

Hi LornaB Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Community. Is the remaining £100 being classed as an owners withdrawal and is the office desk that you're purchasing for the business or a personal purchase? If the office desk is a purchase for the business It's our understanding that if you purchase an item such as an office desk, this would be classed as fixtures and fittings/a capital allowance therefore you wouldn't add this as a business expense and the amount would be included within the Tax allowances for vehicles and equipment (capital allowances), section 49-59, of the SA103F. Please refer to the SA103Fhttps://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/6602bf99a6c0f7699def9137/SA103F-2024.pdf and the accompanying notes.https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/6602bfd165ca2fa78e7da892/SA103F-Notes-2024.pdf

Please note that we're not accountants and we would recommend qualifying the above with an accountant or there maybe there's a suitably qualified Community member that reads this post and confirm the above or provide alternative advice.
