Help has arrived, @paul croal.

There are times that the file format may be incorrect when imported to QuickBooks. You can amend it by opening the CSV file to review and make changes from there to import them again in the system.

If you're importing a 3 column format CSV file, make sure that all amounts are not in negative sign (-) on the amount column. To emphasize the debit in your CSV file, ensure the values are positive (+). Take a look at this screenshot for visual reference:

In addition, here's what it looks like if you're using a 4 column format CSV file:

Furthermore, you may have toggled the Amount column header from the Transactions menu to see only credit entries. Just in case, you can click the Date column header to see both debit and credit imported transactions.

Credit transactions.

Let me show you how:

  1. Go to the Transactions menu.
  2. Click the Date column header until it shows both credit and debit entries.

  3. To see only the debit or credit transactions, click the Amount column header.

I'll include this article as your guide about other things you can check to keep your CSV error-free and how credit card and bank transactions are brought to QuickBooks: Format CSV files in Excel to get bank transactions into QuickBooks.

Once all the imported entries show in the Transactions menu, you can now categorise them in QuickBooks Self-Employed. You may also delete transactions if you find duplicates.

Should you have additional questions about importing CSV files, please let me know. I'm always here to help you out. Take care and have a great day!
