Question

Hi I’m using QBO and have found that it’s not calculating. VAT on my invoices correctly, I’m using 5% at the moment and it’s always a few pence out by insight?

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, @andrew-indulge-d.

Allow me to provide some insights on how QuickBooks Online (QBO) calculates VAT.

The VAT calculation in QBO is compliant and have reviewed by HMRC. With that being said, pence will automatically be rounded off to the lowest hundredths. Then, it'll accumulate by the end of the year or the end of the quarter.

If you need to enter the exact VAT amount, you'll have to change it manually from the invoice. Here's how:

  1. Find and open the invoices with 5% VAT.
  2. On the invoice, change the VAT amount in the VAT @ 5% field.
  3. Click Save and close.
  4. Repeat the steps for the rest of the invoices.
