How do I use a QuickBooks variable in a template for a recurring invoice - for example: a date of <duedate>+7 in CustomField1 so that it updates automatically?

Hello Tm_sawers, Thanks for contacting the Community. We have no changes at the moment to the recurring transactions template for invoicing it will only copy on in sequence from the information in the previous template. We do recommend still adding feedback in the cog for our engineers as they do look at the viability but also popularity of requests for changes in the product.

Hi, stobonet.

This feature is currently unavailable in QuickBooks Online. For now, you’ll need to update the custom field information manually.

I’ll also make sure to take note of this feature and share this with our developers for future updates. I’m sure that other users would like to have this option as well. This can help us enhance your experience in QuickBooks Online.

Please let us know if you need anything else or have further questions.

Manual updating isn't feasible for 500+ invoices every month. Overall, the templates are very limited. With our former accounting package it was possible to include a product description that included the month & year in the form: "Service for %m %y" where %m %y would automatically convert to "June 2019" . This kind of macro substitution is so standard that I can't understand why the designers of QBO didn't include from the outset.

Oh, that's a pretty huge number, stobonet.

Adding date strings would really make your work lighter. I'd recommend finding an app for this. Just click on the App menu in the left navigation bar, or you can go to the App Store website. Then, change the flag icon at the top to UK to get the list of apps for the UK versions.

You can always post back if you have other questions.

Pretty awful that it lacks this ability - we were on Freshbooks and took this simple feature for granted apparently.

Anyone found a 3rd party app that can do it?

Thanks for joining in this conversation, @Billing Department. We're unable to provide a specific app for your business. Though, you can search for one in our Apps Center.

Simply click the Apps tab in the left panel, and enter a keyword in the search field to look for a specific invoice template that updates automatically. I'd also recommend reading the reviews first to give you more ideas about its features.

You can also visit this link: https://apps.intuit.com/app/apps/home

Let me know if you have additional concerns. We're always delighted to help.

I tried but could not find anything that would apply. Can you give me one specific app?
