Hi there, Lydia. Let's work together to raise an invoice using the category as a subaccount for a shared service in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To achieve this in QBO, I recommend following the outlined steps below.

First, let's create a sub-account in the program. Here's how:

    1. Go to the Settings ⚙ icon in your QBO dashboard.
    2. Navigate to Chart of Accounts.
    3. Click on New.
    4. Enter an Account Name for your subaccount.
    5. Choose an Account Type and select the appropriate Detail Type from the drop-down menu.
    6. Check the box that says Make this a subaccount and select the parent account under which this subaccount will fall.
    7. Optionally, you can add an Opening Balance and a description.
    8. Click Save to create the subaccount.

Then, let's link the created sub-account to the service item for accurate tracking:

    1. Go to Sales, then select Products & Services.
    2. Click the New button to create service items corresponding to the categories you want to invoice.
    3. Choose Service.
    4. Add the necessary details to complete the item.
    5. Assign the service item to the appropriate sub-account under the Income account section.
    6. Once done, click Save and close.

Once done, let's raise an invoice. When creating it, add the service items you created as line items. It allows you to break down the income by category on your invoice. I'll show you how:

    1. Go to the + New menu and select Invoice.
    2. Enter customer information and invoice date.
    3. Fill in the other necessary invoice details.
    4. In the line items section, add the service items you previously created. Each item will reflect its category or subaccount in your reports.
    5. Review all details for accuracy, then save or send the invoice as needed.

Finally, I've added these resources to help you ensure you receive and record the invoice payment on time:
