Question

How to create rules from the same named person even when transaction has a different reference?

Hi, I receive large amounts of transactions from a savings account in my name, my quickbooks self employed account, the reference is different every time and the savings account ZOPA are the ones who choose the transaction reference, I cannot control it.

The name of the person is on every single transaction though, this is my own name.

But when I click 'create rule' whether 'match exactly' or not the rule is not applying, it keeps not putting a rule to these transactions as 'personal' it just asks me every time what these transactions are.

How do I solve this, thanks?

Welcome to the Community, daniel.

I'm here to share insights on how to create rules with different references in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE).

Rules make categorizing transactions easier in QBSE. However, for entries with different references, I suggest creating rules for transactions with dominant references.

You have the choice to create multiple rules that have the same references to categorize them.

Follow these steps on how to create transaction rules:

1. On your QBSE account, click on the Gear icon next to your name.
2. Select Create rules.
3. Click on Create rule.
4. Enter the rule name in the Description bar.

5. Once done, click Save
