We're grateful that you're using QuickBooks to help manage your business and for keeping your subscription updated, @benschuster-rock. We'll ensure to address your concern about how long updating subscription take effect so you'll get back to business.

We understand the importance of using our product without issues in keeping track of your company. When you upgrade your subscription to QuickBooks Online (QBO), the update will automatically be implemented in your account. You're able to see the immediate changes and utilize additional features.

If you're done updating it and it doesn't take effect yet, you'll need to log out first then log back in. Generally, you'll receive an email notification regarding the update within an hour. If you're unable to receive one, let's go to the Billing & Subscription menu by clicking the Gear icon and Account and settings to verify that your account is upgraded.

Moreover, you can also perform the basic browser troubleshooting steps to see the changes in your account. Cookies and caches might block you from updating your company file and some features in QuickBooks.

Here's how:

  1. Restart your browser.
  2. Log in to your account in an incognito or private browser. You can use these keyboard shortcuts to launch a new private window:

Google Chrome: press Ctrl Shift N

Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl Shift P

Safari: press Command Shift N

If it works on the private browser, you can go back to the regular browser and clear your browser's cache. See if you're the changes already take effect. Otherwise, you can use another supported browser.

Furthermore, you can manage billing, payment, and subscription info through the Billing & Subscription page. When you need to update the info tied to your QBO subscription and personal or business details, we recommend checking out this article for further details: Manage billing, payment, and subscription info in QuickBooks Online.
