Question

Importing Transactions into QB Self employed

I am trying to import transactions from a credit card.

I cannot connect to the credit card company to do it automatically.

It seems the only way to do it is to import it as cash.

Is there any way of setting up a dummy bank account and then importing using csv file imports which I have been using quite successfully for another account.

Hi there, @chrisgooner4ever.

We appreciate your effort in doing your best in importing your transactions. First, let's figure out why you can't connect your credit card to QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE).

Before that, would you mind telling me the exact error message that you've received or can you share a screenshot that shows the error you've encountered? This will be a great help to fix your issue.

There are several reasons this can happen, it might be your bank has multiple names on our list and you select the wrong one, it doesn't connect to all types of accounts ex. personal accounts vs business accounts, and lastly your bank inst a participating financial institution. But, there are some steps you can take to find the right one.

First, we'll need to search for your bank. If you can't find your bank when you search, review the following:

  • Check the spelling. Ensure the spelling is the correct one as it appears on your bank's website.
  • Use very specific names to search for your bank. If you can't find anything, try broader names like "Citi."
  • Put your bank's URL into the search.
  • Look for the name of the issuing bank. meaning the bank that issued your bank cars. You can find the issuing bank's name on the back of your car. "Chase." 'HSBC", or "Bank of America" should work, but "Visa" may be too generic.

In the second step, try other listed versions of your bank's name. Your bank might have multiple bank names or they might have different types of accounts, but choose to only release one website for connections to QBSE.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Bookkeeping, select Transactions, then choose Bank transactions.
  2. Select Connect account. Enter the name of your financial institution. When it appears, select it from the list.
  3. Choose the link to go to your bank's website. This opens a new window.
  4. Ensure you can access your account through this site, See if you can view your account summary account history, and account details without any errors.
  5. If you can access everything sign out of the financial institution's website.
  6. Move back and continue to add the account in QBSE.

Once done trying all the options, if you can't still connect to your bank or if your bank doesn't appear, then we'll need to request support for your bank.

Perform the following steps:

  1. Select the profile ⚙ icon and select Connect bank.
  2. Search for the name of your financial institution. If QuickBooks is unable to find your bank, you will get the message, "Hmm, we can’t find [name of the bank you entered] in our list of supported banks," and you will be presented with helpful tips to try and locate your bank account.
  3. Select Request support for your bank.
  4. Enter your bank's web address (URL) in the field provided and select Request.

If the same error persists, you can manually upload your transaction or perform the one you mentioned which is to set up a dummy bank account and import using CSV file imports, since you've been using this successfully.
