Question

Is there a trick to matching bank transactions with expenses? For the banking that doesn't match I can see them in expenses, but not as an option when trying to link?

Hi there, @nicole26.

You'll want to go to the Banking menu and link your expenses from there. Here's how.

QuickBooks Online (QBO) automatically recognized transactions you already entered. All you have to do is to make sure the match is correct.

In your QBO:

  1. Go to the Banking menu.
  2. Select the appropriate bank account.
  3. Choose the Recognised tab under the For Review tab.
  4. Click the transactions that match your expenses and select Find match.
  5. Select the expense transaction that matches the download bank transactions and click Match.

Here's an article you can read for more details (read the Match an existing transaction section): Download, match, and categorise your bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

I've also added this great resource for additional reference: Add and match downloaded bank transactions [Video].

I'd also suggest contacting your accountant for guidance on recording this. That way, you'll be guided accordingly.

You can also check this article in case you want to categorise your downloaded bank transactions in your QBO.
