Journal entry numbering

Hi. 

Using QB on-line.  

When clicking "New - Journal Entry" a blank journal form correctly appears, but for some reason it is not numbered correctly.  I have raised 50 journal entries to date.  However the New Journal entry is always 4 numbers behind where it should be ... ie it currently numbers a new journal as No 47. (I've obviously done something I shouldn't have, back when )

 

I have checked the "warn if duplicate journal number" box ...  so I then remember and manually renumber the journal.  

 

Can I manually reset the "next journal entry number" so it automatically numbers the next journal sequentially?

Yes, we can manually reset the journal entry number, so it automatically numbers your journal accurately. Let me show you how: 

 

  1. Locate the Journal entry page. 
  2. On the Journal no. section, edit the information. 
  3. Key in the necessary details. 
  4. Click Save and close.  

 

Afterward, QuickBooks will sequentially populate your journal entry numbers. 

 

In the case of the incorrect numbers, you may have used the same number for your entries. To verify, we can use the Audit log feature and review for discrepancies. Then, we can pull a Journal report to identify the order of the entries, and we can start the modification and update the numbers accordingly. With this, we can ensure an organized set of entries.
