Question

Purchase invoices are being posted to an old unused accounts payables account, and I am unsure as to why. How can this be resolved?

Hello Nikita-patel

 

There is only one default accounts payable account in QuickBooks Online which bills would automatically point to.

The only reason it would usually do this with the old account and have other creditors accounts available is if new ones were created in the chart of accounts or you had a data migrated from another product with a differently named creditors account.

 

You do have the option of merging the accounts payable account with the one you want to use by editing the name in the chart of accounts (under the drop down by account history in the chart of accounts section)  to be exactly the same name as the other accounts payable account and it will merge the two accounts together.It will then automatically select the merged account when you create a bill.

Will this affect the AP and any allocations that have been done? i.e. will this cause any unalloations in the process?

Hello @nikita-patel,

 

Merging accounts will take effect in all created accounts with the same names. Because QuickBooks will only allow a unique name for every account. Thus said, all transactions created and posted in each account will be allocated into one single account.
