Question

Receipt capture was stated to be incorporated into QB Online from July. Has it happened or when will it happen please?

Welcome to our forums, @john-burns,

Thanks for checking this out with us today. I can provide more information about the receipt attachments feature in QBO.

Great news! You can now scan receipts that are automatically attached to your transactions, if you're using the QuickBooks mobile app. Let me give you the steps so you can start the process.

Take a photo of the receipt on the mobile app:

  1. Click the Hamburger icon indicated by three horizontal lines at the top.
  2. Choose Expenses from the list.
  3. Tap the Camera icon to start taking photos of the receipt.
  4. Complete the details of the expense then hit Save.

Once saved, the transaction will automatically sync with your QuickBooks account. You'll then see the receipt in the Attachment section of the expense. Here's how it looks like in QBO:

Please get back to me if you have any more questions or need further assistance with your receipts. I'll be right here to help you, @john-burns. Have a nice week ahead!

I just took a photo of a very clear fuel receipt from an Asda store. The app didn't actually recognise anything on the receipt - no name, no amount, nothing. If I have to fill all the details in each time what is the point of the photo? Might as well continue manually.

Very disappointing

Hello john-burns,

I'm here to provide additional clarification into the receipt capture in QuickBooks Online.

Attaching receipts to a transaction helps determine expenses with the same amount or for additional details. Right now, auto-filling the fields by adding screenshots of receipts are still unavailable.

Please also know that the ability to submit photos of receipts directly to our QuickBooks email address is available in the United States only. This new feature allows us to add the transactions into the account on your behalf through the Banking section.

I understand that you need this to make the process faster and convenient for your business. That said, I'm personally taking note of your request and include this preference to improve QuickBooks.

We'll let you know once there are updates regarding the feature through this public forum. For any updates into attachments, check out this article:

Attachments in QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to get back to me if you have any additional questions about the receipt capture. I'll be here to help.

Thought the mobile app was going to be taken away?

Allow me to join the discussion, @litt_leal,

We are still supporting the mobile device versions of QuickBooks Online. The one we recently ended the support was for the desktop app versions for Windows and Mac. It was decommissioned last April 20th, 2021 and will no longer be updated, available for download, or supported by our Customer success teams.

See this link for the update: QuickBooks Online Mac and Windows Desktop App update

Let me know if you have further concerns with QuickBooks, I want to make sure all your questions are resolved. I'm also here to provide further assistance whenever you need it.
