I'm trying to accept scanned in receipts and I'm getting a new message saying I need to add tax rates/codes for each document.   This is new!   My client is not VAT registered and the software is set to NO VAT.   Help!

Hello @Nicky M,

I appreciate you for bringing this error to our attention and for letting know that you already set the code as NO VAT. I'll make sure to walk you through the troubleshooting steps and route you to the right support.

To start, let’s use a private browser to access your QuickBooks account. This doesn't retain local files or cache so this helps in ruling out the possibility of a webpage issue. Use these keyboard shortcuts based on the browser you're using.

  • For Firefox, press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • For Chrome, press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • For Safari, hold down Command + Shift + N

If this works, you’ll need to clear the browser's cache to avoid experiencing strange behavior when using QuickBooks Online. By doing this, it’ll remove the history or built-up cache in your default browser, so you can start with a clean slate. You can also use other supported browsers as alternatives.

If the issue persists, I highly recommend contacting our Support Team. They have the tools to pull up your account and take further action to help you fix this issue.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Help icon.
  2. Select the Search tab and click Contact Us.
  3. Enter a brief description of your concern.
  4. Select either Start a chat or Get a callback.

Here’s an article you can visit to know more about VAT codes: VAT codes in QuickBooks Online: A complete guide. Just go to the No VAT section to understand when this will apply to a situation.

If you have another business that is VAT registered, I suggest going to the VAT Centre. From there, you can edit your VAT settings, codes, and rates. You can also set up an additional tax rate, group rate, or custom tax within this page. For more information, visit this website: VAT Centre.

Do you have any other questions in mind? Feel free to leave them below and I'll get back to you as quickly as I can.
