Question

When categorising bank transactions in expenses, QB sometimes offers a default of '980 Owner A Drawings' but i have no rule for this. How can i change default category?

Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community, phil95. Let me help you in changing the category of your bank transactions by following the steps below.

Please keep in mind that QuickBooks automatically allocates a category to the downloaded entries based on prior transactions with the same information. This frequently occurs when enabling the Enable suggested category setting in the banking window.

On the other hand, you can always update the category of the imported data by heading to the Category field.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the For review tab under the Banking menu.
  2. Locate the transaction and click it to expand the page.
  3. Choose the Category drop-down arrow and choose the right category.

After that, you can refer to this article for more details on how categorisation works in QBO: Categorise and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Lastly, I'm adding this article if you need help in reconciling your accounts so they always match your bank and credit card statements: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

If you have any other follow-up questions about categorising entries in QBO, please let me know by adding a comment below. I'm more than happy to help, phil95. Have a good one!
