Question

CIS return doesn't actually submit the return. When I login to HMRC they don't exist. It's not good to let people think its been sent successfully when it hasn't!

Thanks for dropping by the Community, heidifuller.

When you successfully file the CIS return via QBO, a prompt will show that it’s accepted by HMRC. The submitted status will show in your company and not in the agency’s portal.

It also goes the same way if you process the tax form directly through HMRC. The information will not flow into QBO and you'll only see the status in the tax agency's site.

If you’ve filed the CIS correctly and it still shows as not submitted, I recommend contacting our QBO Care Team for further assistance. One of our specialists will ask for sensitive information to access your account. They’ll be able to trace what happened to the return and provide a real-time solution to fix the issue.

  1. Go to the Help icon at the top to select the Contact Us link.
  2. This will open another window where you can enter the issue/topic.
  3. Once done, click on the Let’s talk button to view the support information.
  4. Choose how you want to contact our QBO Care Team: Start a chat or Call us.

Here’s a link that provides additional information about the filing process and steps to track the payment: Filing CIS in QuickBooks Online.

Keep in touch if you need help while working in QuickBooks. I’m always ready to assist further. Have a good one.
