Does anybody know why the VAT code dropdown box is empty. Cannot enter any new sales or epxenses

First please check that you have the VAT rates switched on by going to Taxes > Edit VAT > Edit rates and turn on. 

If the codes still do not appear on the drop-down when entering the transaction, please test that this is not caused by a cache issue on the browser by clearing the cache accessing via a private browsing window.
