You don't have to set it up, David Rodney. You can change the dates when you prepare the VAT return.

Let me guide you with the steps:

  1. Click Taxes.
  2. Go to the VAT tab.
  3. Select the VAT form, then click Prepare return.
  4. Change the Start date and End date to ensure the period is correct.
  5. Make sure the Submission date is correct as well.
  6. Click either File online with HMRC or Mark as Filed.

I'll include this reference to help you with filing the sales form: Submit a VAT return in QuickBooks Online.
