Question

How do I amend quickbooks to be able to complete by last VAT return for 01/05/2019 - 03/05/2019 and remove future returns as I have deregistered for VAT?

Hello there, becksbrock1.

I'm here to help you manage VAT returns in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

QuickBooks allows you to adjust VAT returns before submitting it to HMRC. Let me share you this article on how to adjust specific VAT boxes in QBO: Adjust your VAT liability.

Also, as a complete guide on how to submit your VAT return in QuickBooks, you can have this article handy: Submit a VAT return in QuickBooks.

On the other note, deregistering from VAT in QBO is unavailable since the VAT feature cannot be turned off. What you can do is to set your default VAT code as no VAT to prevent from posting anything to your VAT center. Below are the steps on how to do this:

  1. Click on the Gear Icon.
  2. Select Account and Settings.
  3. Click Advanced from the left hand options.
  4. Under the section Accounting click the edit icon.
  5. Change Default tax rate selection to No VAT.
  6. Click Save and then Done.

If you have any questions while managing VAT returns, feel free to drop me a reply below. I'll be sure to help.
