How to enable VAT in QB 2010 desktop version

I am unable to enable VAT in my old QB 2010 R5 version (UK)

Can i request some one to help me with this please?

Hi Mary,

Thanks for your advise. However, before I go ahead and tamper with my loaded software what I cannot understand is:

From the same software (QB 2010 desktop pro) in one entity I can see the vat enabled but in the 2nd entity vat is not enabled!! Both entities are in the same pc/software. That's in the photos I attached earlier.

There must be some thing which can be set right but, alas, I don't know how which is why I am posing this issues to you experts.

Thanks for coming back to us, 

 

So Quickbooks 2010 is no longer supported as we have stated in the replies. 

 

Can you go to Edit>Preferences>VAT>Company Preferences and if it is turned on in there it shouldn't technically be turning itself off. 

 

Can you try switching the VAT off and then on again and see what happens. 

 

Ideally, it would be better if you moved to one of either the desktop 2018, 2019, or 2020 versions of the desktop as 2010 is a very old one now to be using.

Hello there, @SHarve1.

 

Allow me to provide some information about enabling VAT in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2010 version.

 

HMRC has implemented changes that have affected the e-filing of VAT on some versions of QBDT. Since you're using an old version of QBDT, you can no longer enable the VAT feature. QuickBooks 2017 and below are on an unsupported version.

 

You can consider upgrading your QBDT to the latest version to enable the VAT feature and e-file with HMRC.

Thanks Mark for your speedy response. 

 

I do not need to e-file vat. 

 

I just want to analyse how much vat I have paid during the year. 

 

I am chair of a small Table Tennis club with around 70 members. We are a CASC registered with HMRC. We are thinking of converting to a charity to save incidence of tax. I was wondering if it worth. 

 

Earlier I was able to input invoices showing vat. But now I changed my pc and find this feature missing though I loaded the program using the same cd.  I am attaching photos of 'Enter Bills' for 2 different entities in my pc using the same QB2010 Pro desktop version - one shows 'vat' enabled and the other is 'not vat' enabled!

I'm here to help you analyse how much VAT you've paid during the year, SHarve1.

 

First, allow me to share the recent operating system, hardware, software, and other requirements to run QuickBooks Desktop. I've listed the following links below for more details:

Since you've recently moved the file to a new computer, you'll want to make sure it has the same specs as the old one. If not, this may be the reason why you're unable to use the VAT feature.

 

As mentioned by my colleague in this thread, the old version is no longer supported.

 

You can switch back to the old computer and use QB 2010 to get the data you need. If not, you can backup the file, and download the latest version of QuickBooks.

 

Once done, restore the file to the new computer and enter bills from there.
