Hello there, @des13. I'm here to help you fix the incorrect VAT amount in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To start, let's review your VAT settings. The set up determines how the program will calculate your VAT. Let me guide you on how:

  1. In your QBO account, select the Taxes menu.
  2. Next, click VAT.
  3. From there, select the Edit VAT drop-down and choose Edit settings.
  4. Review the details.

If confirmed that there is no mistake in the set up and the VAT amount shown is incorrect in the Taxes tab, you can create an adjustment to fix it. This process is possible if you haven't filed the return yet. Refer to the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the Taxes menu and select VAT.
  2. From there, look for the tax period you need to adjust and click Prepare return.
  3. Next, select Adjust against the entry to be adjusted.
  4. Enter the Adjustment date and the Tax rate.
  5. Then, select the Adjustment account for adjusting VAT. Choose an expense account if you need to increase the tax due and select an income account if you need to decrease the tax due.
  6. Input the Adjustment amount.
  7. Add notes in Memo and select Save.

On the other hand, if you already filed the VAT return, I recommend reaching out to your accountant to unfile and correct it. You can also contact our Customer Care team to help you fix the amount.

Additionally, feel free to browse through our Help articles page to get resources and guides in performing your QuickBooks tasks.

Please leave a reply below if you have any other VAT concerns. I'm just a post away to lend a hand. Have a good one take care.
