Question

Is there any way I can get rid of the 'Tax is' drop down? Or make it default to 'not applicable' rather than 'excluded from amounts? In not Vat registered.

Hello djbalaam, once you turn on VAT you can not turn it off however you can default it to NO VAT so you will not then have the dropdowns in the invoices/bills. To do this go to the cog in the top right of QuickBooks and then go to account and settings>advanced>accounting>default tax rate selection>set it to NO VAT>save >exit from that section. That is then done.

That doesn't have any effect on the mobile app

Thanks for getting back to us, djbalaam. If setting NO VAT as default in the browser version does not make any difference to the options you receive you can reach out to our Customer Care Support. One of our specialists will be able to assist you further in getting rid of the Tax drop-down using a mobile app.

I've added these articles that share about VAT settings, VAT codes, and VAT exceptions and reports in QuickBooks:
