I'm here to ensure you can connect QuickBooks Online to MMRC, @John2404.

Let's turn on the Making Tax Digital (MTD) feature in QuickBooks Online. Then, authorise QuickBooks and connect to HMRC so you can file VAT returns in an MTD-compliant way.

To turn on MTD in QuickBooks Online, select Go to Taxes and click Let's go, and follow the instructions. If you have dismissed the MTD message in your QuickBooks follow these steps:

  1. Proceed to the Gear icon and choose Account and Settings.
  2. Select Advanced.
  3. Locate Making Tax Digital and click the pencil icon to show more options.
  4. Select Learn how to connect.
  5. Click Authorise now. The HMRC window appears.

Then, connect QuickBooks Online to HMRC:

  1. Click Continue to sign in.
  2. Enter your Government Gateway user ID and password to sign in. Use the details HMRC sent you via email when you signed up for MTD.
  3. Choose Grant authority. The authorisation process will begin.
  4. Once you complete the authorisation process, you'll see a message 'You're connected to HMRC'.
  5. Select Continue.

Once you have successfully completed these steps, the MTD badge will show on the Taxes page.

Now, you can submit your VAT return via MTD in QuickBooks Online.
