MTD -4 clients on my QBO account file their own VAT returns. I am not their agent for VAT. Can they file MTD through QBO using their own credentials?

The client will need to enter their details by logging in themselves and going to Taxes and then selecting the Let's go button as mentioned above. If you would like to enter these details for the client, you will need to add yourself as a regular user on the account, rather than as an accountant. Go to the cog wheel > manage users > add user and select Company admin. Add yourself under a different email address than the one you currently use to login and accept the invite. You will then need to login as this user so that the system does not assume you are using your Agent account to submit. You can then follow the instructions posted above.

Thanks,

Yes, they can file MTD through QBO using their own credentials. What they need to do is to authorised QuickBooks to interact with HMRC.

To enable MTD in QuickBooks, here's what you'll need to do:

  1. Click Taxes in the left navigation menu.
  2. Click on Let's go button at the upper right hand.

Once done, to authorise QuickBooks to interact with HMRC, follow these steps:

  1. Click Continue to sign in.
  2. Enter your HMRC credentials to sign in.
  3. Click on Grant authority to continue.
  4. Once the authorisation has been given, you will receive a 'You're connected to HMRC message as below, then click Continue.
  5. When the process has been completed, click on Take a look.

That's it! Once they're able to complete this process, they can now submit VAT return for MTD through QuickBooks.
