I didnt think I had recorded the vat payment on the taxes page but the bank transaction page showed match. I proceeded to record payment ton taxes page but this led to possible two matches one saying VAT payment one saying tax payment. I matched  the vat one but this has led to vat payment showing twice in the Chart of accounts. Help? confused. Thank you. My figures are out by the amount of the vat payment so obviously I have to delete one??

Hi there, @Flex1.

Let me shed some light regarding the recorded payment on the taxes page which already has a match in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

By all means, it is essential to remove one of the recorded VAT payments in QBO to avoid duplicate transactions which can mess up your entries. Moreover, you'll have to check the VAT page or tax report first to confirm the accuracy of the payment.

It is also advised that if the VAT payment is added from the banking section, it should be undone to put the amount back on the For review page. This will allow you to easily match the payment you recorded in the Taxes section with the one on the banking page. Here's a guide on how to do it:

  1. At the left navigation panel, click Transactions
  2. Choose the Bank transactions tab.
  3. Select categorised, then under the action column, click Undo.

Make sure that the payment has the same date, the correct bank account, and the same amount as the one shown on the "For review" page to conveniently match the transaction. If you can't find a match in the banking section, select the transaction line to open and look for the find a match option.

I'm also adding these resources that'll help you manage and view the lists of transactions, this also include each box on the VAT return in QuickBooks:
