Question

Standard rated VAT codes not being picked up on VAT return

No standard rated VAT codes are being picked up in any of the VAT boxes, but the transaction journal does show the amounts being debited to the VAT control account. I have checked that the standard rated code is turned on and I have removed and entered new transactions, but no change. Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone know how to fix this?

Thank you for sharing this behavior in the Community, Harry.

Let's check to see why there's still an amount posted to VAT Control even if you didn't use a VAT code. You can be experiencing a browser issue. We'll do some troubleshooting steps to find out.

To start, you'll want to sign in to QuickBooks using a private browser. This step disables its extensions and stops the cache from saving your browsing history.

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • MS Edge and Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

If you won't see an amount being posted to VAT control anymore, you'll want to go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. If it's the same thing, please try other browsers to isolate the case.

If nothing works, please contact our QBO Support to check this further. They can start a screen-sharing session to gather more details about this behavior.

  1. Click the Help (?) icon at the top and choose Search.
  2. Select the Contact Us button.
  3. In the What can we help you with box, type something like VAT issue and click Let's talk or Continue.
  4. Choose the way you want to connect.

Please let me know if you have other questions in mind.
