Question

VAT

Hi all,

I connected a clients Quickbooks file through Making Tax Digital, only to find that the previous two returns had not been submitted. These were from another accountant and should have been submitted via Sage.

These overdue returns have now been submitted, but Quickbooks still wants to submit the oldest return which it initially found to be overdue. How do I get around this? We want to submit the return for the current quarter, but currently this is not possible.

Essentially I need to manually update the Quickbooks online file with the information from the Sage returns, and then submit the return for the quarter that has just ended.

Any help would be great.

Steve

Hello Steve,

Thanks for reaching out to us on the Community page,

So if the returns have already now been submitted to HMRC outside of QuickBooks, it is just a case of marking them as filed within QuickBooks so it then opens up the return you need to then submit through QuickBooks to HMRC. So if you go to Taxes> VAT>click on the return>  click on mark as file in green bottom right hand corner- if it doesn’t say mark as filed and says submit instead- click the drop down arrow next to it in the same green button and then select mark as filed.  Once the periods have been marked as file to the period that you need you can then when the time is right then click submit to HMRC on the current open return then.
