Hi,

I am now VAT reg as of today, I have added VAT on my HMRC account and shows in Quickbooks MTD enabled, I don't want to setup MTD for tax yet as it has been delayed for three years but the green button on the VAT page looks like it will do this, but how do I link VAT to my HMRC account without MTD for tax?

If i go through the process on VAT page as the image shows it seems it will do MTD for tax? if not then I can't see how Quickbooks knows and talks to HMRC for VAT?

thanks

Hello there, @accounts11_2-2upc.

I'll share some insights about Making Tax Digital (MTD) for VAT with QuickBooks Online (QBO) so you can submit and save your returns accordingly.

Since you're an eligible VAT-registered business, you can sign up for MTD for VAT in QBO. The system will keep your financial records in a digital form and submit your VAT returns online through MTD. With this, without MTD for tax, you won't link VAT to your HMRC account.

Once you completed the MTD setup and authorisation process with HMRC, you'll be able to submit your VAT returns using QuickBooks. To help you get started with submitting your VAT return in QBO, please see this article: MTD for VAT return submission checklist for small businesses.

You can learn more about MTD for VAT with QBO by checking out this article: Everything you need to know about Making Tax Digital (MTD) for VAT with QuickBooks Online.

Also, you may want to check out this article as your guided checklist to get started and submit MTD for VAT return to HMRC: Making Tax Digital for VAT hub | QuickBooks Online.

Please let me know in the comments if you have other MTD for VAT concerns or questions about managing tax returns in QBO. I'm always ready to help. Take care, @accounts11_2-2upc.
