VAT return dates

Hi all

I used to be registered for VAT in 2015 which I filed through QuickBooks.  At the end of 2015 I deregistered for VAT with HMRC.  I am now re registered for VAT as I am over the threshold and my first new VAT return needs to be between 1 October 2018 to 30 April 2020 but QuickBooks is picking up a return that starts from 01/12/2015 and runs to 30/09/2018.  How can I change these dates to reflect the return I need to submit ?

Many thanks

Good day, georgi1303.

Thanks for taking the time to post here in the Community. I'm here to help you handle your issue concerning the VAT return dates in QuickBooks Online.

You can mark your VAT as filed in QuickBooks Online that starts from January 01, 2015, until September 30, 2018, to close the period. And then, for October 01, 2018 to April 2020, you can directly submit them to the HMRC. Let me walk you through the process. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Taxes tab on the left panel, then select VAT.
  2. Select Prepare return to view your open return.
  3. Confirm the dates and figures are correct.
  4. Click the Submit to HMRC drop-down to Mark as filed.
  5. Click on Continue.
