hi Ive submitted numerous Vat returns correctly  via QB but my VAT page is now saying "we can't connect to HMRC right now". Ive disconnected and reconnected/reauthorised HMRC and QB is saying HMRC connection is enabled. However I'm unable to submit latest return which is now due as QB can't connect to HMRC and QB saying take action. What am I supposed to do????

I'll do my best to help you today, hutton road.

Let's go ahead and toggle the settings so you're able to submit the VAT returns in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Here's how:

  1. Go to Gear icon and choose Account and Settings.
  2. Select Advanced.
  3. Under Making Tax Digital, toggle it off and re-enter the gateway information.

This will then connect and you should be able to submit the VAT returns. If this doesn't work, you'll want to  sign on to the gateway using your credentials directly outside QuickBooks and make sure that is taking you to the correct page.

To know more about what action to take when connecting to HMRC, check out this article: Take action status when connecting to HMRC for Making Tax Digital (MTD)
