Question

When I try to submit my VAT return using the bridging software, it says "Looks like your tax codes need updating" and won't submit - does anyone know what to do?

Hi, agutcher.

It's my priority to help you submit your VAT return through the bridging software in QuickBooks Online.

To isolate the issue, you may want to check each transaction and ensure that you're using the correct VAT codes before submitting them.

Here's an article for different VAT codes: Common VAT Codes.

If you're still getting the same issue, the behavior you've experienced is probably a browser-related issue. Cache and cookies make the browser easier and faster to use. However, too much of these may affect the browsing performance.

In the meantime, you can try using the basic troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. You can open your account using a private browser, you may use the following shortcut keys:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N.
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P.
  • Internet Explorer: press Ctrl + Shift + P.
  • Safari: press Command + Shift + N.

If the problem persists, I'd suggest getting in touch with our QuickBooks Online Support to have this investigated.

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online Company.
  2. Click (?) Help at the upper right corner.
  3. Select Contact US on the pop-up.
  4. Enter a brief description of your concern then hit Continue.
  5. Click Get a callback.
  6. Enter your contact information.
  7. Select Call me.
