Existing QB accountant has cancelled clients subscription that was supposed to be handed over to me, how do I get access and accept client

Hi there and welcome to the QuickBooks Community!

 

There's great benefit to connecting your client's QuickBooks Online subscription with yours as an accountant or bookkeeper. Your client can rest assured knowing that you'll be helping them with their books every step of the way, and you can keep an eye on the transactions they've entered to ensure that they're following the best practices. It's not uncommon to experience some bumps in the road when your client is attempting to have their file transferred from one accountant to another, so let me give you some pointers.

 

What's likely happened is that your client's previous accountant has transferred the billing from their Wholesale Billing plan to the client. In this case they should have sent the client a warning to let them know that they'd need to enter their own billing details to keep the subscription active. Since it sounds like that wasn't done, the account has been cancelled. At this point, your client should log in and navigate to the Gear icon, then Account and settings, followed by selecting the Billing & subscription tab. From there they'll be able to enter their own payment details to re-activate the subscription.

Depending on whether or not your client's former accountant transferred the role of Primary Admin back to them or not, you may also need to pursue having that switched over. The easiest option is to reach out to the former accountant and have them transfer it to the client's user so that the client can them remove the former accountant and invite you. If this isn't an option, your client may need to complete a Request to be the primary admin or contact. To figure out whether you'll need to do this or not, have your client choose the Manage users option from the Gear icon to take a look at active users and their roles.
