Hello shep-rogers-com,

Thanks for being a part of the QuickBooks family! From what you're describing, it sounds like you were able to take advantage of a signup discount promotion, which is an awesome opportunity for getting started with the program. I'd be happy to go over how QuickBooks Online subscriptions and their related charges work.

Since you mention a $20 price point, it sounds like you're looking at the QuickBooks Online EasyStart package. It's a fantastic option for taking care of the basics of business bookkeeping. Currently, it's $20 and then there's tax added on top of that. If you're in an area that has 13% HST, you would then see a charge of $22.60 on your statement for the QuickBooks Online charge.

All subscriptions, including ones on promotional discounts, are subject to sales tax. The only exception is QuickBooks Payments since it's not quite the same as the other subscriptions. Here's an article that goes over this more: How to understand your subscription rates and charges

I hope that helps explain what's happening for you. If you'd like to have someone take a closer look at your subscription, feel free to reach out to support using the following options. This gives us the option to take a look at your account in a secure, private setting.

Another workaround to lower your cost. Utilize this 3rd party tool to migrate your data between QBO accounts.

https://transactionpro.grsm.io/qbo

Once you are ready to proceed, open a new QBO account with current discounted rate.

If you are able to run this process once, you may repeat it later.
