Reporting pro services over several months

Hi everyone,

We do software implementations with clients and the work done often spans more than one month and I want the revenue from hours done in each month to show in the month but still want to, eventually, send the customer one invoice.

If I add the hours done in June to the invoice that started in May, the revenue shows in May and, if I create a new invoice in June I will not be able to give the customer one invoice; is there a fix for that?

Thanks for getting back to me here.  If you have QuickBooks Online Plus, the projects feature is already turned on.  This should be included in the left navigation bar.  However, if this isn't the best fit for your business needs, you can submit a suggestion to our Development Team from your Settings ⚙, then select Feedback.  Customer recommendations are greatly appreciated in improving your overall customer experience in QuickBooks Online.

Welcome to Community!  QuickBooks Online is a dynamic program that offers multiple features, to achieve your daily bookkeeping tasks with confidence.  There are a couple of options for reporting your customer jobs.  I'd be glad to assist!

 

Based on the information you've provided, you can enter a Due Date on your invoice and enter additional line items for each Service Date.  If you prefer to have individual invoices for each date, you can send your customer a monthly statement.  However, I feel you would benefit from using Projects.  This keeps all of your customer information in one project, so you can track hourly labour costs and profitability by project.  You'll also be able to invoice customers for project expenses.

Many thanks Trish for your reply.

I don't think these suggestions will achieve what we're looking for though. If we set the opening date for an invoice in May then add every activity with the date it was delivered on that invoice, the total of the invoice will count as revenue in May (even if some activities dates are in June)

What we wanted to do is:

  • The professional services hours done in May to count in May's revenue
  • The professional services hours done in June to count in June's revenue
  • When we are done with all the work, we can send just one invoice to the customer

It appears that we don't have "Projects" in our QuickBooks Plus and we are not going to add cost to our subscription just to get that

It is OK if there is no way to achieve that and you do not have to respond but you may add it as an enhancement request.
