Question

There is a glitch issue with the online Quickbooks version. If an estimate is open for a length of time, the program backs out to the sign in page, and all data is lost.

Hi Kaitlyn,

Having to redo your work is never fun, and I want to make sure that you're not having to spend extra time re-entering data that you were already in the process of entering in QuickBooks Online. I can help you with making sure that your data is saved and you don't lose it.

Since you mention that you have the transaction open for a length of time and then the program goes to the sign in page, it sounds to me like what you're running into is the program timing out due to inactivity. There are a couple of steps you can take here, the first being to change the amount of time that the program waits before timing you out to the sign in page. This article explains further: Change the timeout duration in QuickBooks Online

You'll notice that the article outlines not only how to change the timeout duration, but also the reasons why the program might time out. While the article mentions that things like keystrokes are taken into account as activity and should prevent the timeout from occurring, I've also found that the program doesn't always pick up keystrokes. This is why even if you're actively entering information and maybe using the Tab key to move to the next field that the program will timeout.

Apart from changing the timeout duration in your settings, the next best way to make sure that you don't lose all of your data while entering information on transactions like estimates is to use the Save button. This is the one next to the green "Save and" button and it's useful for saving your progress as you go without closing out of the transaction.

If you have any thoughts you'd like to share about this feature, feel free to do so by following the steps here: How do I submit feedback? This helps our product development team see how users are interacting with QuickBooks Online and what changes could benefit them. I hope this helps! I'll be around if you had more questions.
