Hello there, @joehuber3.

Let me help and provide insight about the feature to limit your accountant to see everything only in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE).

Currently, QBSE doesn't have the option to restrict accountant access since the Accountant and Primary Admin have the same level of access. For now, I suggest removing the accountant and then just exporting the reports or transactions to have them checked manually.

If you don't want an accountant to have access anymore, here's how to remove them:

  1. Select Settings, then select Accountant.
  2. Find the accountant you want to remove, then select Remove accountant next to their name.

To send copies of reports to your accountant. Here's how:

  1. Go to Reports.
  2. Find the report you want to send to your accountant.
  3. Select the time period or tax year from the dropdown.
  4. Select View or Download.
  5. From the dropdown, select Print or Download.

For more information, refer to this article: Invite an accountant to review your books.

I'll also add this article to get you ready to file your taxes with QBSE: QuickBooks Self-Employed Annual Tax Guide.

Don't hesitate to leave a comment below if you have follow-up questions about the accountant access or other QBSE-related concerns. I will answer them in any possible way.

Thank you for the quick response. Is there an upgrade that makes what I am asking possible?

Hello, @joehuber3.

Allow me to share some updates about limiting your accountant to see everything.

Yes, you can upgrade to QBO, however, the option to restrict accountant access is unavailable. Moreover, you can add your accountant as a standard user to have some limits. You can set different levels of access for this user. They can work with customers, sales, vendors, and expenses. These users can enter timesheets, add users, update company info, or manage subscriptions.

For future reference, if your user forgot their password, you can read this article to learn how to fix it: Update or change your Intuit Account login information.

If you have further questions about limiting your accountant to access your account, you can comment below and we'll respond to you as soon as possible.

It would be a nice feature to be able to give my accountant access to data but not be able to make changes.  If they could view and click through reports/transactions but then I make the adjustments.  Would be an important and simple solution for many clients I imagine.

@tedra1  While it's always a good thing to have more options, I have to wonder what kind of accountants people are hiring if they aren't comfortable with said accountants being able to make changes.

My reasoning would be to be able to make the suggested adjustments myself and better learn how to correctly keep books.  Having nothing to do with not trusting the CPA.
