Hey @KareninAZ,

Currently, there’s no option to create a customized Trial Balance report in QuickBooks. Because it's statement reporting only the debits and credits of your accounts.

Also, you’re only able to edit the Report period you wish to show on the report.

While this option isn’t available, I’ll personally send feedback to our engineers. This way, they'll know about your suggestion to customize the Trial Balance report. They can consider adding this to future product updates.

Please let me know if you have other concerns.

Is there a way to customize it in QB Premier?  I have never worked with a program that would let you have the beginning balance.  That is a standard for yearend financials sent to CPA's for tax returns.

Thanks!

Hi there, @telrod.

Thank you for posting in the Community. Allow me to help share some details about customizing the Trial Balance report.

You can customize the Trial Balance in QuickBooks Desktop, however, the option to add the Beginning Balance in the report isn't available. As mentioned by my colleague, Alessandra_B this report only confirms the total of all debit balances matches the total of all credit balances in each account.

I've attached some articles as future reference:

These resources should help to get you on the right track. Stay in touch if you have any other questions about customizing reports in QuickBooks Desktop. I'll be happy to help you out. Have a great rest of your week.

That is nearly what I have been looking for as well. We were running AccountEdge (formerly MYOB) and the trial balance is dumped into a mapped Excel model each month - and the mapping cannot be changed.

We need:

Beginning Balance

Debits

Credits

Net Activity

Ending Balance

So, we're clearly not the only people on the planet needing this format!

I DID find one report in the report in the "contributed" reports that is called "Comparative Trial Balance" that shows beginning, ending balances & net acvitity. I hope that helps you somewhat.

Essentially, what we are in need of is a working trial balance, which is available in the Accountant's version. Is it possible to ask the developers to develop an update for folks that have versions other than the Accountant's version (we have manufacturing & wholesale, for instance). An update/patch with the WTB might solve the issue quite easily since the report already exists in another version of QB. Just a thought!  Thank you!

Hi, @jriley1414.

I know how important it is to have this feature in your QuickBooks. I'll be sending this suggestion to our product developers to add this feature in future product updates.

Additionally, you'll be notified through in-products ads and email, once our engineers have new enhancements in QuickBooks.

I need the trial balance report to be customizable as well. Specifically I need to be able to see "Class" on the trial balance. I will use the trial balance export to excel to power the historical data in my financial model. It is shocking to me that the trial balance report is not able to be customized.

So frustrating. I have to be able to run reports that show beginning balance as of a date, debits and credits and ending balance of a date for trust account. Please fix this!

I understand the frustration you're experiencing. JCL11.  I can help address your need for a report that shows the beginning balance as of a specific date, along with debits, credits, and the ending balance for a trust account.

You can generate the Reconciliation report to see the beginning and ending balance.

  1. Navigate to the Reports section.
  2. Enter Reconciliation Report in the Find report by name search bar.
  3. Select the Reconciliation Reports category.
  4. Choose the desired account for the reconciliation report you wish to view.
  5. From the Report period dropdown, select the reconcile dates.
  6. Click on the View Report button.

You can also export the report if you need to change the fonts, colors, or other aspects of the visual appearance. For detailed steps, here's how to export reports to Excel.

For future reference, you can customize your report to display what is only relevant to you and your business.
