Question

Can I change the statement date on a reconciliation report after it is completed? I accidentally selected 2024 instead of 2023.

Or can I delete it and do it over?

Hello dr51, thank you for reaching out to us with your query. Rest assured that I'm here to assist you with your concern.

Yes, you can change the statement date on a reconciliation report after it is completed in QuickBooks Online (QBO), but the process is slightly different depending on whether the reconciliation is already completed or not. If your transactions are already reconciled, you will need to undo and unreconcile the reconciliation and correct the year date.

When you know which transaction you need to change, here's how to edit and unreconcile the transaction:

  1. Go to Settings, then Chart of accounts.
  2. Find the account that has the reconciled transaction. Then select View register.
  3. Find the transaction. If the transaction is reconciled, you’ll see an in the checkmark column.
  4. Select the transaction to expand the view.
  5. In the checkmark column, select the box with the R until the box is blank. This removes the transaction from the reconciliation.
  6. Select Save and close the account register.

Once the reconciliation has been unreconciled, you can then proceed with reconciling the transactions again with the correct statement date for the year 2023.

Moreover, I'll add this link to help you fix past reconciliation problems: Fix issues for accounts you've reconciled in the past in QuickBooks Online

Please let me know if you have more questions about reconciliation in QBO. I'm more than willing to assist. Take care.

Thank you.  I appreciate the instructions, but the problem is that there were no individual transactions that needed to be reconciled. I set the statement date wrong (2024 instead of 2023), but the ending balance was the same as the beginning balance.   I need to delete the entire report, I think.  Is there a way to do that?

Hi there, dr51. Thank you for going back to the thread. I appreciate what you've done so far in your account. There is nothing for you to worry about as I'm here to help you delete the reconciled transactions.

Once you've successfully reconciled, it'll automatically route to your Chart of accounts. If you want to delete that transaction, here's how:

  1. Go to Transactions, then choose Chart of accounts.
  2. Look for the account that has the reconciled transactions, then click View register.
  3. Find the transaction. Once the transactions are reconciled, you'll see an "R" under the checkmark ✔ column.
  4. Under the checkmark ✔ column, select the "R" until the box is blank. This way, transactions will be unreconciled.
  5. Press Save. Then close the account register.

However, if you have an accountant, you may reach out to them as they can undo an entire reconciliation in QuickBooks Online

In addition, I also added an article for you to be guided on how to fix issues the first time you reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

You can always reply in the comments below if you have further questions about reconciling in QBO. We'd be glad to assist you further. Take care.
