No, Intuit instituted new protocols a while back that require that you have a password and change it regularly.

There should be an option to allow you to enable or not the require a password.  I hope that you receive a lot of negative comments on this new requirement.  There's always should be an option to require or not.

This is hugely infuriating.  Intuit is protecting itself, not us.  The desktop app sits on a computer which is already protected by a password.  The additional requirement to not reuse passwords adds insult to injurt.  INTUIT!   WAKE UP AND LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS!

Hi david97,

I also wouldn't want to memorize passwords. However, we’re dealing with company data. Your clients’, vendors’, and employees’ information are there, too, and need to be protected. We’ll want to ensure that only authorized users have access to your company file, and the file is not vulnerable to data thieves.

The following Personal Identifiable Information (PII) and setting will trigger the password requirement in QuickBooks Desktop:

  • The Credit Card Protection feature is enabled (Company > Customers Credit Card Protection)
  • Employee and Company Social Security Number
  • Company EIN
  • Company Bank Details (Routing Number, Account Number)
  • Company Credit Card Acct. Number
  • Fixed Assets Account Number
  • Other Assets Account Number
  • Other Current Assets Account Number
  • Loan/Other Current Liability Account Number
  • Long-Term Liability Account Number
  • Vendor Tax ID
  • Vendor Account No.
  • Employee's Birth Date (QuickBooks 2018 versions only)

On the other hand, you have the option to keep yourself logged in for a maximum of 90 days. You can use this while we're unable to turn off the password prompt. You'll be logged out after that, and you can use the reset tool in case you forget your password.

I'm taking note of your feedback about reusing passwords. I'm sharing it with our development team to be considered in future updates.

I'm just around if you have other questions.

My office building has locked doors accessible only with a keycard.  My office has a lock with a key.  My computer is protected by a password.  Why should I then have to enter a password to access Quickbooks?  Why not take it a step further and protect each individual bank account with a password?  How about requiring a password if you want to search for a transaction?  How about requiring a password every time you click "File"?  There's no end to the insanity.

"Passwords require at least 7 characters, including one number and one uppercase letter".  Oh yes, that makes passwords instantly more secure.  How about "Passwords require at least one SpongeBob SquarePants reference and one Kanji character"?  Now that's secure!

Why not use single sign-on (SSO)?  Have your developers look into it.  It's basically been the standard in computing for a decade.

I'm furious with my new purchase.  I can't believe I have to type in Password1 every time I want to open my files...

Please give us the option to remove passwords

Can you tell me what IRS regulation requires a password? I want to contact IRS and my congressman asking  to get this password requirement removed.
