I imported my QBD file into QBO and inadvertantly overwrote important data. How do I revert to the original QBO file?

You can purge your QBO account and convert your data again from QB Desktop

You can also use the trial version of QB Desktop to access your historical data for good if required.

Let me share how importing and restoring your file works in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

The option to restore your QBO file to a date in time and remove the imported desktop file is unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO). However, we can delete all the imported data can start over. Here's how you can delete your transactions manually in the All Sales tab section:

  1. Go to the Sales menu, then choose the All Sales tab.
  2. Locate your sales transactions.
  3. Click the drop-down arrow under the Action tab.
  4. Press Delete.

For your invoice transactions, you have the option to delete them by batch. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Sales menu and choose the Invoice tab.
  2. Select all the transactions by placing a checkmark in the box icon.
  3. After that, click the Batch actions drop-down.
  4. Click Delete.
  5. Select Yes when prompted for confirmation.

I recommend reading the common questions about importing data to QuickBooks Online for a complete list of what can be imported. It provides detailed information on what data can be imported, what order to do it in, and how to do it.

On the other hand, we can only delete all the information from the account if your account is less than 60 days old. If it's already beyond, then you'll need to cancel the current account and create a new one.

If the account is less than 60 days:

  1. Login to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.
  2. Delete all the text after the last / and enter purgecompany (Example: from https://app.qbo.intuit.com/app/homepage to https://app.qbo.intuit.com/app/purgecompany).
  3. Type Yes to confirm the deletion and then Wipe data.

If it's beyond 60 days:

  1. Cancel your current account from the Account and Settings.
  2. Sign up for a new account by going to this link: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/pricing/.

  2. Click the All Sales tab.
  3. Locate your sales transactions.
  4. Under the Action tab, Select the drop-down arrow.
  5. Click Delete.
