Question

Can you delete a product?

I would like to delete products I do not sell and never held inventory for. I have set them as Inactive many, many, MANY times and they continue to "come back" as active. They are not in any transactions. Why are they not saving as Inactive? They pop up in my daily QBO activities such as invoices and Inventory Reports.

Hi there, hosbrook41. Thanks for reaching out to the Community.

I've reviewed our ongoing/solved investigations and can confirm there's currently no records about subscribers reporting that their inactive products are reactivating on their own.

I additionally tested this myself in the test drive account by making all of my products inactive, then refreshed to see if they were in an active status again. After the page finished loading, each record I'd inactivated remained inactive.

Since yours are reactivating by themselves, I'd recommend checking your browser. It's possible this could have something to do with temporary internet files. Browsing applications store these types of records, but sometimes they can cause problems with certain webpages. You can open a private window and try making them inactive again.

Here's how to access incognito mode in some of the most commonly used browsers:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Internet Explorer: Ctrl + Shift P
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Command Option P

If your products stay in their inactive status, it's safe to say this problem's being caused by temporary internet files. It can be fixed by clearing cached data and Intuit-specific cookies.

In the event they continue activating on their own, I'd recommend getting in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

They can be reached while you're signed in:

  1. Use the Help (?) icon.
  2. Choose Contact Us.
  3. Enter a description of your situation in the What can we help you with? field, then click Let's talk.
  4. Select Start messaging or Get a call.

Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available.

Please don't hesitate in sending a reply if there's any questions. Have a wonderful Friday!

I did as you suggested and the inactive products stayed inactive. I have since cleared my cache/history. But I just went on this morning and there are those annoying "inactive" products again. I will contact the customer care team as you suggest next.
